Summary: Wikis 101

Led by Ellen Cartwright: Ginny Hearon, Carol Lichtenfeld, Jennifer De Vito, Anne Alexander, Cao Hong, and Peter Coulianos learned the ropes of how to use a wiki page.
A wiki is a collaborative web page in which members can edit and comment. In Hawaiian, the word wiki literally means "really quick." A wiki page is a "really quick" way to access and change informational webpages. an example of a popular wiki would be Wikipedia. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia open to the public where members of the site have created and can edit their own entries to enlighten the public with (although the public must be aware and cautious of incorrect information).
Today, each of the attending faculty members learned how to create, edit, and link to and from pages using EditMe wikis and are already dreaming up creative lesson plans. Here are a few examples:
As seen in this screenshot, the "students" learned about adding images and color to spruce up their web pages. Also, they learned how to incorporate tables to help with formatting.

Thanks for posting the links to other wikis. I especially enjoyed wikiHow and am already thinking it's a great site for a rainy day. Actually, it also reminds me of my early days teaching programming, when students would be asked to give specific, step-by-step directions for How To Tie Shoe Laces.
